East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that the structural works for the new Hedon Centre are complete and that the facility will open to the public on Monday, 14 January, 2019. It will contain integrated library and customer services facilities all in the same location.
Over the next few weeks, work to finalise the interior layouts, fixtures and fittings and IT works will be concluded, including the reinstatement of 8,000 volumes of stock, public access PCs and self-service facilities, enabling the full range of library and customer services to be available from that date.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “I am delighted that we are now able to announce the opening date for this superb new facility in Hedon. I hope that customers will bear with us during this temporary closure period, and I know they will see the benefits of our investment when the new Centre opens in January.”
The temporary library located on Church Lane car park in Hedon will close at the end of business on Saturday, 22 December at 12.30pm. This will allow for the closedown and decommissioning of the temporary library and removal of the temporary building to take place on 14 January, 2019.
The Customer Service Centre, at 2 New Road, will close from the end of business on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 for three days.
During the closure period, the nearest alternative libraries and customer service centres are at The Hessle Centre in Southgate, Hessle and The Withernsea Centre in Queen Street, Withernsea. Customers can return books to any East Riding library or renew online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/catalogue. Customer enquiries and payments can also be made via the web at www.eastriding.gov.uk or by ringing 01482 393939. In addition payments can also be made at any post office or PayPoint outlet.
