Mon, 07 Jan 2019

Sewerby Hall and Gardens are turning their attention to the Edwardian Dinner Party for their first exhibition of 2019.

‘Dinner is Served! The Edwardian Dinner Party’ will return to the house and will be open at weekends from Saturday, 12 January.

Curator Janice Smith said: “Nothing preoccupied the mind of an Edwardian hostess so much as the planning of a dinner party. From matters of food and drink, table service, the guest list, and matters of precedence, every detail was of the utmost importance and great store was set at arranging the menu for a dinner party.

“I am delighted that the West Wing Gallery at Sewerby Hall is once again to host this fascinating exhibition exploring the complicated art of the Edwardian Dinner Party.”

The house is open at weekends only during the winter season, from11.30am - 3.30pm (last admission 3pm). Admission is £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children. A family ticket costs £11.

The gardens and Clock Tower Café are open daily from 9.30am, and the zoo is open daily from 10am. Admission to the gardens is free of charge until Friday, 29 March, 2019. Admission charges apply to the zoo.
