East Riding beaches, promenades and open spaces will be vibrant, active and full of family fun once again in 2019, as Active Coast returns.
There will be plenty of old favourites including beach days, field days, the beach sports festival, kite festival, UK Pro Beach Tour, Sewerby Family Fun Day and more. Other returning favourites include the All Ride adapted cycling scheme, Coastal Explorers, parkrun, sand and stone workshops, and regular pop up sessions including beach cricket and beach volleyball.
New for 2019 will be a new-look Cover the Coast programme with outdoor coastal activities for adults, and the Headlands Way led walk; beach clean and create sessions; Humber Bridge field day; picture post coastal trail; beach volleyball training camps; and a land, sand and stone festival with Responsible Fishing, celebrating culture, the outdoors and natural art, the first of its kind in the UK.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said : “I am delighted that we are able to bring back Active Coast for its third year, and that we have been able to expand it still further this year with new venues and an even wider range of events and activities.
“After a hugely successful 2018, engaging over 19000 people along the East Yorkshire coast, we are looking forward to another great year!”
Active Coast will again work with partners Skyball, East Coast Beach Soccer, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, SAS Hornsea, Yorkshire Cricket and more to make the East Yorkshire Coast the place to Explore, Join In and Enjoy.
