    Duluth power and control wheels

The “Duluth Model” is an ever-evolving way of thinking about how a community works together to end domestic abuse.

The Duluth wheels are useful tools for both practitioners and victims. They describe the tactics and range of behaviours used by those choosing to harm, and the impact it has on their victims. There are several wheels that can be referred to:

Clare's Law, aka the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS)

The aim of the DVDS is to give members of the public and professionals a formal mechanism to make enquiries about an individual who they are in a relationship with, or who is in a relationship with someone they know and there is a concern that the individual may be abusive due to their history.

If a professional has concerns, for example, they come into the possession of information about the previous violent and abusive behaviour of someone that may cause harm to another person, it is their responsibility to refer into the DVDS.
