Goole’s Pastures Day Services host annual pantomime

Monday, 13 April 2026

Pastures day services in Goole recently hosted their annual pantomime, entertaining fellow service users, family and friends with their production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The day service supports those with learning disabilities, autistic people and older individuals from the local community.

Taking place of Wednesday, 1 April, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Pastures Day Services hosted the event, written and organised by the service’s drama club.

The drama group meets every Wednesday and is ran by support workers Laura Moody and Emma Beadle, alongside basic support worker Cherry Whitely who also helped to craft the colourful costumes in the show.

Families and friends of service users gathered to watch a packed-out show with the pantomime following the traditional tale with a few added surprises.

Characters included Jack, his mother and auntie, the King and Queen, the Princess, the Giant and his Evil Henchmen, three Good Fairies and of course, Daisy the Cow. Service users also took part as the musicians for the show as well as helping support the team to build the sets.

To be inclusive, the show was also live streamed to the other day services across the East Riding, giving everyone the opportunity to join in the fun.

Tea and coffee were served along with a bake sale with goodies baked by support worker Stevie Maxfield.

A raffle was also on offer, with money raised from this and the bake sale going towards the service’s Welfare Fund. This fund is used to provide service users with additional interactive and social experiences.

Chis Stoker, Pastures Day Services manager, said: “I want to say well done to all the service users for putting on a great production. But also thank you to Laura and Emma who work so hard to run the drama group for our service users and who have brought this production to life.”

Emma and Laura were then presented with flowers at the end by their budding actors and actresses.

In attendance was also the newly formed Pastures Family & Friends Association (PPFA) who are also fundraising for Pastures Day Services.

The PFFA is a non-profit group dedicated to supporting Pasture Day Centre to enhance the lives of its service users through raising funds, sourcing resources and fostering meaningful community involvement.

Alongside the leadership of Pastures, the group are looking to raise funds for a sensory garden.

The group were asking family members to take jars to fill with coins to bring back to the group for fundraising. Their latest fundraiser was an ‘every coin counts’ which is a challenge to fill a jar of coins and to return it to Pastures Day Services once full.

The team are also looking for family and friends of those who use pastures day services to join them. You can get in touch with the team on their Facebook page.

Councillor Jonathon Owen, cabinet member for adult social care and health at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said, ‘’It’s wonderful to see this popular event return for another year.

‘’The Pastures Day Services pantomime is something which is greatly anticipated by service users, their families, friends and all our team members across our learning disability services.

‘’I would like to recognise the great effort of all those involved to bring this production to life, and I am delighted to see the service users actively involved with the creation on the pantomime as well as their impressive fund-raising efforts.’’
