Make the most of the East Riding coast this summer

The East Riding coast offers an exciting mix of unforgettable experiences for visitors of all ages.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council manages lots of destinations for people looking to explore historic attractions, enjoy outdoor adventures, relax by the sea, or reconnect with nature. There are plenty of ways to make the most of the region’s stunning coastline and countryside this summer.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens

The historic building is home to a museum and hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Discover the world’s finest nature photography with the ‘Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ exhibition, on display now until Sunday, 19 July.

The family-friendly zoo is home to a collection of mammals and birds including lemurs and penguins, with animal encounter experiences also available. Annual passes provide visitors with year-round access the house, gardens and zoo, offering discount on holiday cottages, the on-site Clock Tower Café and much more.

The Edge: Aerial Adventure

Designed for thrill-seekers of all ages, The Edge: Aerial Adventure offers an exciting high ropes experience in a safe and fun environment. Located at South Cliff Holiday Park, Bridlington, the course provides breathtaking views of the East Yorkshire coastline from the top of the high ropes.

Perfect for younger adventurers, the low ropes course offers a more relaxing experience for those looking to build confidence through a less intense challenge. The experience makes for a fun day out, designed to improve health and wellbeing for individuals, groups and families in the great outdoors.


Coastal Services

Available for hire for a day, week or even longer, beach chalets are perfect for a fantastic time on the coast with all the family. Beach chalets can be found at six locations across the picturesque East Riding coast in both Bridlington and Hornsea.

The range of chalets offer a relaxing spot to make the most of the beach whilst taking in the refreshing sea air, they also act as a convenient base providing easy access to local attractions. Four-legged friends are also welcome at the chalets at selected beaches. Each chalet comes with deckchairs, patio chairs, electricity, and access to a water tap.

Local Nature Reserves

The East Riding is home to a variety of coastal nature reserves including, Danes Dyke, Flamborough South Landing and Spurn Point.

The natures reserves boast an impressive variety of wood ravines, ancient earthwork, cliffs populated by sea birds, chalk pebbles and much more, with Danes Dyke noted as one of the largest woodland areas on the Headland.

Free to attend, the nature reserves give people the opportunity to connect with nature, explore new paths and find out more about the wildlife which depend on these natural sanctuaries.

Bridlington Spa

Bridlington Spa acts as a magnet for world class talent and features an exciting entertainment programme. This summer there’s fun for all the ages with shows to suit every taste including dance, comedy, musicals, tribute acts, children’s shows and more.

‘9 to 5 the Musical’ heads to Bridlington Spa from Tuesday, 11 to Saturday, 15 August and promises the ultimate feel-good musical comedy with a whole lot of Dolly Parton fun.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: ‘’We have lots of exciting things coming up across our East Riding destinations this summer. From family days and exploring nature, to visiting historic locations and taking on an exhilarating high ropes course, there’s something for everyone!’’
