Overnight road closures as work on new Brough roundabout continues

Friday, 2 August 2024

Two initial overnight road closures are needed as work continues on the project to build a new roundabout in Brough.

The nighttime closures in August and September are necessary to join up arms on the £4.7m A63/Welton Road Brough Junction Scheme, which is designed to improve a congested junction in the town.

Work began on the £4.7m project in July last year and the roundabout is expected to be completed in November.

The scheme involves the construction of a large, three-lane roundabout with traffic signals to replace the busy junction at Welton Road, Welton Low Road, Water Lane and the A63.

Road closure one

Overnight closures are planned for Welton Road in the vicinity of the works over two nights on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 August (from 7pm to 6am), to allow the contractor to tie-in both the Welton Road arms of the new roundabout.

A diversion will be in operation via Welton Low Road - Elloughton – Brough.

There will also be a local diversion in operation for Stanley Jackson Way traffic via Broadley Way and Common Lane.

Road closure two

Overnight closures will take place at the western end of Stanley Jackson Way from 7pm to 6am each night from Tuesday 27 August to Friday 13 September, to allow for the construction of the tie in with the realigned Water Lane.

A diversion will be in place via Broadley Way and Common Lane.

Stanley Jackson Way will reopen during the day.

Further closures are planned in September to October, details will be advertised nearer the time.

The workforce will also be working night shifts from 27 August to 26 September.

Councillor Gary McMaster, the council’s portfolio holder for housing and infrastructure at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “Work on this roundabout is entering the final few months but there is still plenty to be done before we can open it.

“Thanks to residents and drivers for their patience during these night time closures as they are essential to the scheme.

"We’ve purposefully made sure to avoid any day-time road closures so they cause as little disruption as possible."
